Sunshine Meadows, half day

Sunshine Meadows is one of the most scenic locations in the Canadian Rockies. It offers alpine lakes, stunning views and an incredible variety of wildflowers. This is Banff’s best kept secret!

Sunshine.jpgTotal distance:  Loop distance varies between 4 km (2.5 miles) and 12 km (7.5 miles)
Elevation gain: Elevation gain varies between 80 m (260 feet) and 300 m (1000 feet)
Trailhead: Follow the Trans-Canada Hwy to the Sunshine Village interchange, 9 km (5.5 mi) west of Banff town site and 21 km (13 mi) east of Castle Junction. Continue on the Sunshine Road for another 9 km (5.5 mi) to the parking area at the foot of the gondola.

Johnson Lake, half day

This easy lake shore loop features great views and opportunities to see wildlife - elk, deer, waterfowl and raptors, as well as offering a variety of wildflowers.

Total distance: 3 km (1.9 miles)
Elevation gain: 10 m (33 feet)
Trailhead: From Banff follow Banff Ave. east. Pass under the Trans-Canada Highway towards Lake Minnewanka. Turn right towards Johnson Lake and Two Jack Lake. After 3.3 km (2 miles) turn right and follow the road to its end at Johnson Lake.

Tunnel Mountain, half day

“The sleeping buffalo” offers excellent views of the Banff town site and Bow Corridor.

Total distance: 4.6 km (2.8 miles)
Elevation gain: 305 m (1000 feet)

Sulphur Mountain, half day

For those looking for a good workout without having to drive far from town. You will be rewarded at the top with spectacular views.

Hoodoos Trail, half day

A pleasant walk along Bow River and flower filled meadows leads to some intriguing pillars of rock, called the “Hoodoos”.

Total distance: 5 km (3 miles)
Elevation gain: 40 m (130 feet)
